More Info

The 2026 1 oz Silver Britannia continues The Royal Mint’s long-standing tradition of producing high-quality bullion coins. Minted in .999 fine silver, each coin contains precisely one troy ounce of pure silver. Its face value of £2 makes it legal tender in the United Kingdom, though its intrinsic value is tied to the silver content, which is far higher.

The coin incorporates modern security features — such as micro-engraved lettering, latent images, and surface animation — to help ensure authenticity and give buyers peace of mind.

Reverse

The reverse showcases Philip Nathan’s classic “Standing Britannia” design. Britannia, the female personification of Britain, is depicted standing on a windswept shore, wearing a Corinthian helmet, holding a trident in her right hand, and a shield featuring the Union Jack in her left. Her flowing robes and the detailed waves behind her give the design both elegance and depth.

Security features on the reverse include:

  • Micro-engraved text: the motto “Decus et Tutamen” (“an ornament and a safeguard”) around the design.
  • Latent image: a small symbol that shifts between a padlock and a trident when tilted.
  • Surface animation: wave patterns in the background that shimmer when viewed from different angles.
  • Tincture lines: intricate lines on the shield that increase detail and prevent counterfeiting.

The edge is reeded, consistent with traditional bullion coins, providing additional tactile authentication.

Obverse

The obverse features the official portrait of King Charles III, sculpted by Martin Jennings. The King is shown uncrowned, facing left, following modern British coinage tradition.

The inscriptions on the obverse read:

  • “CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D” — Latin for “Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith”
  • “2 POUNDS” — the coin’s legal tender value.

This clean, authoritative design reinforces the coin’s legal status and provides an instantly recognisable portrait for collectors and investors alike.
