More Info
The 1oz Krugerrand Gold Bullion Coin remains one of the most widely recognised and traded gold coins in the world. Known for its long history and global liquidity, the Krugerrand delivers a reliable way to hold physical gold in 22-carat form. The “Best Value” version of the coin gives investors access to an established bullion option — often at a lower cost than newly minted coins — while retaining the recognisability, liquidity, and heritage that make Krugerrands a staple in gold portfolios.
Reverse
The reverse side features the classic image of a springbok antelope — the national animal of South Africa — captured in mid-leap. This design was created by artist Coert Steynberg and has become emblematic of the Krugerrand’s identity. The reverse inscription typically reads “KRUGERRAND · FYNGOUD 1 OZ FINE GOLD,” signalling the coin’s gold content.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the Krugerrand, the coin bears the portrait of Paul Kruger — the former President of the South African Republic. The design was created by engraver Otto Schultz. Around the portrait, inscriptions read “SUID-AFRIKA · SOUTH AFRICA,” reflecting the coin’s national origin. This front design has remained consistent over decades, helping to maintain the coin’s instant recognisability across global markets.
