Compare Maple Leaf Coin Prices
Compare live prices on Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins from trusted UK dealers. The Maple Leaf is struck by the Royal Canadian Mint and was the first modern bullion coin produced to 9999 fine purity.
A bullion-coin first
The Gold Maple Leaf launched in 1982 as a direct response to the Krugerrand, but with a key differentiator: 9999 fine purity rather than the Krugerrand's 22-carat alloy. The Silver Maple Leaf followed in 1988, also at 9999 fine. The high-purity standard set by the Maple Leaf became the template for nearly every bullion coin programme launched since.
Security features
Modern Maple Leaves carry two notable anti-counterfeiting features: precision-machined radial lines covering both faces (visible as a fine concentric pattern) and a micro-engraved security mark that requires magnification to see. These features have made the Maple Leaf one of the harder bullion coins to counterfeit credibly.
UK tax position
Maple Leaves are denominated in Canadian dollars and issued by Canada — they are not UK legal tender and do not qualify for UK capital gains tax exemption. Investment gold Maples are VAT-exempt; silver Maples carry 20% VAT. UK investors prioritising CGT efficiency often combine Maples with UK-issued coins.
