More Info

The 2026 1 oz Gold Britannia continues The Royal Mint’s flagship bullion series, first launched in 1987. Struck in 999.9 fine gold, this coin offers both investors and collectors a secure way to own physical gold. Each coin contains exactly one troy ounce of pure gold and carries a face value of £100. Thanks to its legal tender status, the Britannia is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents, making it one of the most tax-efficient bullion investments available.

In addition to its intrinsic gold value, the Britannia is celebrated for its artistry and innovation. Modern security features — including a latent image, surface animation, micro-text, and tincture lines — ensure confidence and authenticity with every purchase.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2026 Gold Britannia showcases Philip Nathan’s timeless 1987 design of Britannia, the female personification of Britain. She stands firmly against a windswept shore, wearing a Corinthian helmet and holding a trident in her right hand, symbolising maritime strength. In her left arm she carries a shield emblazoned with the Union Jack, a mark of national identity and protection.

The design is further enhanced with advanced security details: a wave-pattern background that shimmers in the light, fine micro-engraved lettering along the border, and a latent image that shifts between a trident and a padlock when viewed from different angles. Together these features not only add visual depth but also act as a safeguard against counterfeiting.

Obverse

The obverse features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by sculptor Martin Jennings. It presents the King facing left, without a crown, in keeping with long-standing British coinage tradition. Around the portrait runs the inscription:

“CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 100 · POUNDS”

This Latin legend translates to Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith, along with the coin’s £100 face value. The clean and dignified design symbolises continuity and trust in the UK’s currency while marking a new era of British coinage under His Majesty’s reign.
