Compare Rand Refinery Gold Prices

Compare live Rand Refinery gold prices from trusted UK dealers — Krugerrands and South African investment bars. Rand Refinery produces the Krugerrand on behalf of the South African Mint and is one of the world's largest LBMA Good Delivery accredited gold refiners.

The refinery behind the Krugerrand

Rand Refinery has produced the Krugerrand continuously since the coin's introduction in 1967. The arrangement is unusual in modern bullion: most major coins are minted directly by national mints (Royal Mint, US Mint, Perth Mint), but the Krugerrand is produced by Rand Refinery — a private refining company — and then issued under South African Mint authority. Lifetime Krugerrand production through Rand Refinery exceeds many tens of millions of coins, making it the highest-volume gold coin programme in history.

The Krugerrand range

Rand Refinery produces Krugerrands in four standard weights: 1oz (the flagship), 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz. All use the same 22-carat (916.7 fine) alloy specification — copper-alloyed for durability and inherited from the Krugerrand's design origin as a circulating coin. Pure gold content matches the troy ounce weight exactly; the alloy adds non-precious mass to total coin weight.

LBMA Good Delivery accreditation

Rand Refinery's investment bars carry LBMA Good Delivery accreditation — the international standard for refining quality and consistency in the wholesale bullion market. The refinery's bars are accepted by central banks and institutional bullion holders globally on the same basis as PAMP, Heraeus and Argor-Heraeus output from Switzerland.

UK tax position

Rand Refinery gold products are VAT-exempt as investment gold under HMRC rules. Krugerrands are South African legal tender, not UK, and therefore do not qualify for UK CGT exemption. Rand Refinery investment bars carry no legal-tender status anywhere and are also not CGT-exempt.
