Compare Gold Krugerrand Prices

Live gold Krugerrand prices from trusted UK dealers, every weight compared. The Krugerrand is the original modern bullion coin — in continuous production by Rand Refinery since 1967 and historically the global volume leader.

The coin that built the modern bullion market

Before 1967, gold investing was a peripheral retail activity. The Krugerrand was the first coin designed specifically as a private investment vehicle, and by the early 1980s it commanded around 90% of the global gold coin market. Every other major bullion programme — the Maple Leaf, Britannia, Eagle, Kangaroo — was created in response to the Krugerrand's success.

The premium picture

Krugerrands are typically among the lowest-premium 1oz gold coins available in the UK. Decades of cumulative production and active secondary supply, combined with Rand Refinery's efficient cost base, keep premiums tight. For UK investors prioritising metal deployment per pound spent — and willing to accept CGT exposure on disposal — Krugerrands consistently show competitive pricing.

The 22-carat alloy, properly understood

The Krugerrand is struck to 22-carat (916.7 fine) purity rather than the 9999 fine of Maples or modern Britannias. The additional copper is structural rather than investment — a 1oz Krugerrand contains exactly one troy ounce of pure gold, with the alloy weight bringing total mass to 33.93g. The pure gold content is identical to a 9999 fine 1oz coin.

UK tax position

Krugerrands are VAT-exempt as investment gold under HMRC rules. They are not UK legal tender and remain subject to CGT on disposal above the annual allowance. Compare with gold Britannias for the CGT-exempt UK alternative.
