Compare live gold Kangaroo prices from trusted UK dealers — every weight and dealer compared. The gold Kangaroo is the Perth Mint's flagship gold bullion coin, distinctive among major bullion programmes for refreshing its reverse design annually.
Annual design refresh — unusual for a bullion coin
Most major bullion programmes keep stable reverse designs across years — the Britannia, Maple Leaf, Eagle and Krugerrand all use essentially the same imagery decade after decade. The Kangaroo is the conspicuous exception: a fresh kangaroo design appears each year, with twenty-plus distinct reverses across the programme's history since 1986. The result is a bullion coin with built-in collector dynamics on top of pure metal value.
The gold Kangaroo weight range
One of the broadest in the major-coin gold market: 1/20oz, 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, 1oz, 2oz, 10oz, and 1kg. All are struck at 9999 fineness — matching Maple Leaves and modern Britannias and exceeding the 22-carat alloys of Krugerrands and American Eagles.
How year affects premium
For pure bullion purposes, the metal value of a gold Kangaroo is identical across years — the same 9999 fine gold at the same troy weight. Year-to-year premium variation reflects supply, condition and collector interest. Launch year Kangaroos (1986-87, originally branded 'Gold Nuggets') and certain low-mintage years can carry small premiums on the secondary market. Most current and recent years trade close to standard bullion premiums.
UK tax
Gold Kangaroos are VAT-exempt as investment gold under HMRC rules. They are Australian legal tender (face values from AU$5 on 1/20oz up to AU$3,000 on 1kg), not UK, so they do not qualify for UK CGT exemption. Compare with gold Britannias for the CGT-exempt UK alternative at similar 9999 fineness.
