Compare 2026 Gold Sovereign Prices
Compare live 2026 gold Sovereign prices from trusted UK dealers — fresh next-year British gold. 2026-dated Sovereigns continue the Royal Mint's Charles III obverse with the Pistrucci St George reverse on bullion issues.
2026 Sovereign availability and stock cycle
The Royal Mint typically begins striking next-year Sovereigns in autumn of the preceding calendar year, with dealer stocks reaching the UK retail market in the final quarter. 2026-dated Sovereigns therefore become widely available through late 2025, supplementing the 2025-dated stock that dominates the year. For investors prioritising fresh-from-mint condition with the latest year date, 2026 stock is the natural choice from Q4 2025 onwards.
Continuity with the Charles III obverse
2026 Sovereigns carry the Charles III obverse effigy by Martin Jennings, introduced for UK coinage in 2023 and used continuously since. The King faces left, in keeping with British convention. The reverse remains the standard Pistrucci St George dragon design dating to 1817. Year of issue is the only variable across consecutive Charles III bullion Sovereigns — specifications, alloy and design otherwise remain identical.
The 22-carat continuity
2026 bullion Sovereigns retain the same 22-carat (916.7 fine) alloy specification used continuously since 1817. The Full Sovereign contains 7.32g of pure gold; Half contains 3.66g; Quarter contains 1.83g. The remaining mass is copper, alloyed for durability and not priced as investment content. Weight tolerance is ±0.04g per coin across the family.
Tax efficiency
2026 Sovereigns benefit from the same dual exemption as every Royal Mint Sovereign year: VAT-exempt as investment gold under HMRC's Sovereign provision, and CGT-exempt as UK legal tender. Year of issue does not affect either treatment — 2026 and 1926 receive identical tax treatment for UK residents.
