Compare Silver Britannia Prices

Live prices on silver Britannias from trusted UK dealers — every weight stocked, every dealer compared. Silver Britannias are the principal UK silver bullion coins and the only widely available silver coin to qualify for UK CGT exemption.

The flagship UK silver bullion coin

The silver Britannia plays the same role for UK silver investors that the gold Britannia plays in gold: the standard, dealer-stocked, legal-tender coin that combines mainstream liquidity with structural tax efficiency. Production at The Royal Mint's Llantrisant facility has run continuously since 1997, with the alloy specification upgraded from 958 fine to 999 fine in 2013.

The silver tax picture

Silver investing in the UK contends with 20% VAT on purchase — a charge gold avoids — which raises effective entry costs meaningfully and creates a higher break-even threshold. The silver Britannia's CGT exemption partially offsets this for long-term holders, particularly compared with silver bars where CGT exposure remains. For short-term silver positions or those with significant unused CGT allowance, premium efficiency matters more than the exemption.

Specifications and security features

Modern silver Britannias are 999 fine, 1oz weight, 38.61mm diameter, with a £2 face value. Issues from 2021 incorporate the same anti-counterfeiting features used on gold Britannias: micro-text, latent imaging, and surface animation. These are integrated into the strike rather than applied post-production.
