Compare Royal Mint Gold Britannia Prices
Live Royal Mint gold Britannia prices from trusted UK dealers — every weight, every dealer compared. Modern gold Britannias are produced exclusively at the Royal Mint's Llantrisant facility in Wales, struck to 9999 fineness with integrated security features.
Llantrisant production standards
Royal Mint gold Britannias are struck on dedicated bullion presses with weight tolerance of ±0.04g per coin. The 9999 fine alloy is mixed in-house, rolled to a consistent thickness specific to each weight, and struck through hardened collar dies. Quality control includes automatic visual inspection for surface defects and weight verification on every coin before sealed packaging direct from the strike line.
Integrated security features
From 2021, every gold Britannia carries four integrated anti-counterfeiting features: micro-text spelling 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN' around the edge, surface animation (a moving wave pattern visible under angled light), latent imaging that switches between Britannia's trident and a padlock symbol when tilted, and radial sunburst lines on the background field. These are struck into the coin rather than added afterwards, which makes them difficult to replicate convincingly.
The Royal Mint weight range
The Royal Mint produces gold Britannias in four standard weights: 1oz (£100 face value), 1/2oz (£50), 1/4oz (£25), and 1/10oz (£10). Each face value is in pounds sterling, which is what secures legal-tender status across the entire range.
Tax position
Gold Britannias are VAT-exempt as investment gold and CGT-exempt as UK legal tender.
