Compare 1oz Bullion Prices

Compare live prices on 1oz bullion from trusted UK dealers. The troy ounce is the global benchmark for bullion pricing — every major spot price quotation, every dealer's headline rate, and the most heavily traded coin format worldwide. 1oz is where bullion liquidity is deepest.

Why 1oz is the benchmark

The troy ounce (31.1035 grams) has been the standard unit of precious metal weight in the English-speaking world since the Middle Ages, and remains the basis on which gold and silver are priced globally. Spot prices on London, COMEX and elsewhere are quoted per troy ounce. Every major bullion coin programme — Britannia, Sovereign (1oz isn't standard for Sovereigns), Eagle, Maple Leaf, Krugerrand, Kangaroo, Philharmonic — has 1oz as its flagship size.

Liquidity and resale

1oz coins are the easiest bullion format to sell. Every UK dealer buys them, premiums are tightest at this size, and the weight is universally recognised. For investors who may need to liquidate at short notice — or who simply value the option — 1oz coins are typically the most flexible holding.

UK tax position

Investment gold at 1oz is VAT-exempt. UK legal tender 1oz coins — the Britannia most prominently — qualify for capital gains tax exemption, making them notably tax-efficient compared to Krugerrands, Eagles or Maple Leaves of equivalent weight. Silver 1oz coins carry 20% VAT.
